Reflections and learnings from the trip
Based off our 2017 experience
Cuba is a country unlike anywhere I have ever been before. When we went there was only internet in the main squares, and you could see it was a country that had been cut off from the world for many years. We flew into the south (Holguin) as flights were cheap, try to avoid this if you can as there isn’t much in the south and meant an 11 hours bus journey! We did also learn quickly the buses were not the most pleasant buses and renting a car was an easy, cheap and efficient form of transport, giving you much more freedom.
If you don’t want to be rushing around as much as this itinerary suggests then I would leave out Cienfuegos, as much as we loved it the town was quite quiet and you will see the wildlife in Trinidad.
If you like lobster then this is the place for you! There is so much, and it is so cheap, seafood is the main cuisine, I wouldn’t overly recommend anything else.
