A wildlife paradise that is actually more affordable than you think. 80% of the country is full of wildlife of all shapes and sizes including the remarkable Okavango delta. This really is Africa in the raw.
Self-drive on fully equipped safari vehicles to have the ability to get into the bush. You can combine this itinerary with Namibia if needed.
Days 1-5
Fly into the dusty Okavango gateway at Maun and drive into the central Kalahari Game reserve. Pop into New Xade village where the evicted San Bushmen now stay then onto camp wild at Pipers which is generally very good for experiencing lions in a great campsite.
The drive to Lekhubu Island on the Magadigadi pans with its pink stunted baobabs and the mind-blowing views of Sowa pan which are exceptional. These vast extraordinary salt pans just have to be experienced. As you come out and want to spoil yourself stay at Elephant Sands which will give you a very close encounter with elephants up close and personal inside the campsite.

Days 5-10
The Chobe and Okavango can be expensive but you can be clever. At the top end of Chobe stay at Muchenje Campsite, where literally tens of thousands of elephants, possibly the highest concentration anywhere on the continent. The reserve is a mecca for African game including huge herds of buffalo, lions, leopard and wild dog.
Then drive to the Khwai Community reserve sites on the northern edge of the Okavango to see this world heritage site without having to pay the extortionate rates normally required in this region. From there it is a fun, if not bumpy ride back to Maun
