Annual Leave Explorers

Day 1-2: La Paz

• Explore the bustling streets of La Paz, starting with a visit to the iconic Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas) to witness traditional Andean rituals and pick up unique souvenirs.
• Take a ride on the Mi Teleférico cable car system for panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains.
• Immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of La Paz with visits to historic sites such as Plaza Murillo and the San Francisco Church.

Day 3: Death Road Biking

• Embark on an exhilarating biking adventure down the infamous Death Road (Camino de la Muerte), descending from the high-altitude Andes to the lush Yungas region.
• Experience breathtaking scenery, adrenaline-pumping descents, and encounters with local flora and fauna along the way.

Day 4-5: Uyuni Salt Flats

• Journey to Uyuni, home to the world’s largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni.
• Explore the surreal landscape of the salt flats, marveling at the vast expanse of white salt crust and capturing optical illusions in perspective-bending photos.
• Visit the Train Cemetery (Cementerio de Trenes), where old locomotives from the early 20th century lie abandoned in the desert.
• Witness stunning sunsets and stargaze amidst the otherworldly beauty of the Uyuni Salt Flats.

Day 6-7: Potosí and Salar de Uyuni

• Travel to Potosí, one of the highest cities in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Explore the historic Cerro Rico (Rich Hill) silver mine and learn about its fascinating but dark history.
• Visit the colonial architecture of Potosí’s historic center, including the ornate Cathedral and the Casa de la Moneda (Mint House).
• Conclude your journey with a visit to the charming town of Salta, known for its colonial architecture, vibrant markets, and delicious cuisine.

Extending the trip

This trip could easily be extended into 10 days or even two weeks by spending longer in each places, there is so much to see and it is quite long travel days (or overnight bus). The roads are slightly nerve wracking but absolutely beautiful. you could also fly to Sucre which would be a beautiful town to visit and would save you a significant amount of travel time.
