Europe’s underrated off the beaten track summer travel destination

Truly my favourite country in Europe, and something i cannot recommend more. Get ready for an unforgettable week-long road trip through this picturesque country, filled with stunning mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and warm hospitality.

Day 1: Arrival in Ljubljana

Arrive in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, and spend the day exploring the charming old town, including iconic sites like Ljubljana Castle and the Triple Bridge. Enjoy a leisurely dinner along the Ljubljanica River. Overnight in Ljubljana.

Day 2: Lake Bohinj

Drive to Lake Bohinj, a tranquil Alpine lake nestled in the Julian Alps. Spend the day hiking around the lake, visiting Savica Waterfall, and taking a cable car ride to Mount Vogel for panoramic views. Overnight in or near Lake Bohinj.

Day 3: Triglav National Park – Bovec

Head to Bovec, located in the heart of Triglav National Park. Explore the stunning Soca River Canyon with activities like canyoning, white-water rafting, or hiking along the Soca Trail. Overnight in or near Bovec.

Day 4: Kranjska Gora

Drive to Kranjska Gora, a picturesque town known for its outdoor adventures. Explore the Vrsic Pass, Zelenci Nature Reserve, and hike to Pericnik Waterfall. Overnight in or near Kranjska Gora.

Day 5: Lake Bled

Spend a full day at Lake Bled, one of Slovenia’s most iconic destinations. Visit Bled Castle perched on a cliff overlooking the lake, take a boat ride to the island church of Bled, and enjoy a stroll along the lakeside promenade. Overnight in or near Lake Bled.

Day 6: Postojna and Predjama

Depart from Kranjska Gora and drive towards Postojna. Visit the fascinating Postojna Cave, a vast underground network of tunnels and chambers filled with stunning formations. Continue to Predjama Castle, a medieval castle built into a cliff. Return to Ljubljana for overnight stay.

Day 7: Departure from Ljubljana

Enjoy a final morning in Ljubljana, perhaps visiting any missed sights or indulging in some last-minute shopping. Depart from Ljubljana for your onward journey.
